This gamelan workshop is located in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is run by master builder Mbah Daliyo who has been making gamelans since the 1970s. They build large scale to small scale gamelans’ and also traditional drums. Steeped in the Javanese traditions, the workshop is busy smelting metals for the gongs through to final wood work and decoration for use by local gamelan musicians. The craftsmanship of these instruments coupled with western experimentation is what we hope will be one of the outcomes of The Instrument Builders Project.
