NGV Studio hosts the first Australian iteration of The Instrument Builders Project (IBP), an experimental collaborative project between Australian and Indonesian artists and musicians.

The first two iterations of the IBP were held in Yogyakarta in June 2013 and March 2014. The third IBP includes an exhibition of the best works made through the project so far plus a workshop production space, with elements of studio and gallery, in which the artists will conceptualise, build, perform and exhibit new works together and present public programs (concerts, exhibitions, workshops and talks) alongside periods of experimental ‘free time’.

OPEN WORKSHOPS
3-5pm, Wednesday 19 November, Thursday 20 November, Friday 21 November
Drop in, drop out and sample a selection of ‘hits from the gong’.

Between 3pm and 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the IBP workshop opens to the public. These two hour freeform sessions will sit somewhere between a noise laboratory and improvised jam session.

The artists will be experimenting and exploring new ‘instruments’ including the table hurdy-gurdy, bird organ, electromagnetic spinningfields, shell vibes, wall hammer, and things that don’t yet have a name. This is all in advance of more formal concerts and programming that will take place on Sat 22 and Sun 23 Nov.

Everyone is invited to come and join in!
