Dylan Martorell is an artist and musician who’s work is influenced by the natural world, human rituals, ethnography and mythology. Music and sound, from field recordings to ritualized performances, play a major part in his multidisciplinary practice. Martorell’s works typically involve a highly disciplined and refined level of detail intertwined with an ad hoc improvisation and magpie junkyard aesthetic. Inspired by his world travels, a major interest for Martorell is the history of different musical diasporas. This interest manifests in his art through an almost synaesthesic combination of colour, pattern, sound and line. Dylan is currently conducting a three country residency for Asialink focussing on nomadic street based performance spaces incorporating improvisation, collaboration, utilization of site specific gleaned materials, alternative energy sources, and d.i.y culture. The first part of the residency will include presenting and performing work in Yogyakarta and the Jakarta Biennale.

Martorell has exhibited and performed nationally and internationally.
